Growing up in the countryside surrounding Columbia, SC, I had my first experience of the wonder and beauty of nature, and developed a love for the landscape which has thrived ever since. My paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather were both artists, so it was natural that I began drawing and painting at a very early age. By the time I graduated from high school, I was doing portraits and exhibiting watercolors. |
| After receiving my B.A. in Art, I began working in the fields of commercial illustration and graphic design while continuing to develop my abilities as a watercolorist and portraitist. In 1973, I moved with my husband to a secluded cove in Jackson County, North Carolina, near the Blue Ridge Parkway. The beauty of this area provided me endless inspiration, and here my work began to focus on the breathtaking landscapes surrounding me. Today I live and work in Asheville, still in love with the mountains and with landscapes. Now working exclusively in pastels, I strive to capture the feeling of joy and awe I experience in nature, and convey those feelings to those who might view my paintings. I am exhibited in Asheville, North Carolina and Columbia, South Carolina. |
